Courses

The Department of International and European Law teaches a wide range of courses related to Public International Law, Law of International Organizations and the Law of the European Union.

Courses taught by the Department of International and European Law:


Public International Law

The course covers the sources and principles of Public International Law, its subjects, the relationship of international law and domestic law, treaty law, responsibility of states, peaceful settlement of international disputes, state jurisdiction, law of diplomatic and consular relations, law of statehood, international environmental law, status of territory, law of the sea, international protection of individuals, international humanitarian law and the law of armed conflicts, international organizations.

In some of the programs the lecture is accompanied by seminars where the most significant decisions of the International Court of Justice (such as the Nicaragua case, the Barcelona Traction case, North Sea Continental Shelf case etc.) are analysed and discussed by the students.

Law of the European Union
The course covers the history and law of the integration, the sources and principles of EU law, institutions and decision-making in the EU, relationship of EU law and national law, the Court, responsibility, law of the internal market, competition law, common foreign and security policy, judicial cooperation in the EU.
In some of the programs the lecture is accompanied by seminars where the most significant decisions of the European Court of Justice (such as the Cassis de Dijon-case, the Gebhard-case, the Factortame case etc.) are analysed and discussed by the students.

Law of International Organizations
The course is taught for master students of international relations and covers international organizations in general (formation, organization, categorization, tasks, responsibility etc.) and covers the law of the United Nations, U. N. specialized agencies, NATO, OECD, League of Arab States, Organization of American States, Council of Europe, African Union, International Committee of the Red Cross and other forms of institionalized cooperation of states.

European Human Rights Law, Law of Diplomatic Protection, Model United Nations, European Competition Law are provided as optional courses in various programs.
